In order to compete with the ever-expanding Marvel Cinematic Universe, DC is hosting an explosive event of its own next year by pitting two heroes against each other in Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice.

This is the film that will open up DC’s own movie universe, but going forward, Batman may play an even larger role than we'd previously assumed.

Industry sources told Den of Geek on Friday that after a recent screening of a “near finished cut” of Batman v Superman, Warner Bros. executives were so impressed with Ben Affleck’s performance that they began working on a deal that would see Affleck star in two additional standalone Batman movies on top of the one he has already been confirmed to be writing and directing.

“Basically, [Warner Bros. are] now working their movie universe around Ben’s Batman,” the source said.

If this report is to be believed, Warner Bros. would basically be setting up Ben Affleck as the Robert Downey Jr. of the DC universe.

Considering the popularity of the Batman character relative to Wonder Woman, Green Lantern or any of the other Justice League members, it sounds completely reasonable, but it would be a major commitment for Affleck.

Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice releases in theaters on March 25th, 2016. Watch the latest trailer for the Zack Snyder movie below:
