Irish housing charity Respond! has put out a call for unemployed construction workers who would like to volunteer to build communities in the Kwa-Zulu Natal region of South Africa, one of the country’s poorest.

The construction sector has suffered greatly in the economic crisis over the past year. “It is commonly accepted that it will be some time before the sector recovers, and it may never reach levels witnessed in the middle of the last decade,” said charity spokesperson Ms. Aoife Walsh.

Respond! Housing Association has been working in partnership with the South African National and Provincial government and the local community in Kwa-Zulu Natal for the past three years.
