Iran test-fires missile: Iran said it has test-fired a new land-to-sea missile in the Persian Gulf, according to state-run media.

Press TV reported that the country’s defense minister, Brigadier General Majid Bokaei, said on Tuesday that the new missile has high accuracy.

“This new missile, which has been equipped with a surface-to-surface missile system, exits the atmosphere after being launched, re-enters it at a high speed, and completely destroys the target vessel or warship,” he said via Press TV, an English state-run broadcaster run by Iran.

He said that enemy warships retreated when the missile was fired, according to the broadcaster, without elaborating on where the vessels were from.

“The defense ministry has been able to test a new missile in the Persian Gulf which has a high ability to hit targets,” he said, Reuters quoted the state-run IRNA media outlet as saying.

Bokaei did not say when the missile was fired and did not say how long its range is.

Iran will celebrate its National Army Day on April 18 an will likely show its military advances, according to Reuters.

Last year, Iran unveiled and test-launched a short-range missile that was both accurate and could hit land and sea targets under 180 miles
