Ever since romance has become an accepted norm in human cultures, people have needed assistance with their love lives, whether it be with attracting a spouse or expressing their sentiments for each other. We used to look for help through poetry. In modern times, we have looked to mass-produced Valentine’s Day cards. Today we have application software or apps that can inspire us to be more loving and romantic with our partners.

There are dozens of apps in the App Store for this purpose and while only a small number of them are free, many seem to be populated with information culled from the Internet or from some other freely available source. Surely, you do not need an app to look up what can be easily found through a Google search.

But Slots of Love has things that can’t just be found through simple Google searches like the other apps, and is more useful. With its original ideas, it may be worth a look. All of the ideas in the app are also classified by the amount of time the activity will take and how expensive it is, for what occasion (whether a romantic celebration, birthday, or otherwise), and whether it is for him or for her.

As for the ideas, some are contrived, and others are creative and inspiring. With the user-submitted ideas, a wide range of people is represented so you don’t get the sense that you are getting the same kind of information repeated over and over. The app provides useful options for searching, sorting, and filtering, so that you can find what you want more easily.

One downside is that there aren’t that many ideas in the app. That will change over time, however, since you can set the app to update itself as new ideas are made available.

Now, if you’re in the mood for some randomness, you can play the slots of love. This is purely a gimmick for finding random ideas and is mostly useful if you’re bored. Most people would probably want to see ideas presented in the form of a list rather than as a slot machine.

Compared to other apps of the same genre, the developers put a decent amount of effort into the interface and in usability. Regretfully, you'll be able to read all of the ideas in just one short sitting, and none of them provide tips that can contribute to a truly enduring relationship. But to be fair, this app just provides ideas for romantic activities and does not offer relationship advice.

For that, you need to consult your own relationship guru, not a phone.

Slots of Love sells for $0.99.
