iPhone 5 models will be shipped in September, will feature a faster processor, and will look similar to the iPhone 4, a Reuters report on Wednesday said.
Three people told Reuters that Apple will be shipping new phones in five months. The news agency cited unnamed sources, saying they are “familiar with the matter.”
The new report differs from previous speculation, which said the fifth-generation phone would not be produced until September, let alone shipped to stores, according to a report last week from Apple Insider, citing Avian Securities.
In the Reuters report, production of the phone is set for July or August. Apple generally launches each iPhone model during the summer, but this could be pushed back due to supply issues resulting from the aftermath of the Japan earthquake. Last year’s iPhone 4 was released and shipped in June.
Largan Precision Co Ltd will make the camera modules for the phone, Wintek Corp will provide the touchscreen panels, and Foxconn Technology Co will make the case, the Reuters report added.
