Apple, Inc. may create and sell three different versions of the new iPad, according to a report from DigiTimes, a Taiwan-based news site, on Tuesday.

The multiple-version iPad rumor, also reported by the LA Times technology blog and CNet.com, said that Apple could begin manufacturing three iPads with different ways of accessing data by Jan. 2011.

The three wireless technologies that could be found in the iPad 2 are suspected to be Wi-Fi as well as the 3G technologies UMTS and CDMA.

The Wi-Fi, UMTA, and CDMA models will be made at a ratio of 3:4:3, the DigiTimes report said, citing “industry sources [who spoke with] upstream component makers,” making 3G models about 60 to 65 percent of all iPads.

According to the Los Angeles Times technology blog citing the Japanese website Macotakara, the new second-generation tablet from Apple will probably feature a flat back instead of the first-generation’s rounded back as well a camera or two and a sleeker design.
