It is rumoured that iOS 4.2 has been delayed due to WiFi issues with the new speculated release date thought to be tomorrow, Nov. 16, according to CIO. However, Apple has not yet confirmed.

iOS is perhaps one of the most anticipated updates to the Apple gadgets iPhone, iPod Touch and iPad. The wait for this update has been far too long, and is comparable to the wait for the upgrade to Windows 7 from Windows XP, according to iTwire.

iOS 4.2 is supposed to fix a number of small bugs and other issues that came with iOS 4.0 and iOS 4.1, and is also supposed to boost performance for the iPhone 3G.

iTWire states: “iOS 4.2 brings over 100 new features to iPad users, from a unified email inbox to a “find” capability in Safari to multitasking and more...”

Such features include folders for iPads, to arrange and sort your apps. With several hundred thousand apps available to iPad users, it is certainly a very useful addition.

Multitasking has also been made easier, as users can switch between different apps without restarting it every time.

Additional language support and keyboards are also available, with more and more non-English speaking users using Apple products, especially Chinese and Spanish, according to CIO.

With competition increasing now for operating systems from Windows, Google, Palm and Blackberry, all having recently released or announced updates, Apple needs to step up its game in the mobile phone OS market.

Smart phone OS developer Symbian, a non-profit organisation, is taking out the lion’s share in the growing smart phone market so Apple’s development team might just have to provide faster updates to appease iOS users before they make the switch.
