IndyCar veteran Paul Tracy will co-drive the No. 77 Combos/Circle-K Dallara Ford for the 2012 Grand-Am Rolex 24 at Daytona with Dr. Jim Lowe and brothers Burt and Brian Frisselle.
This will be the fourth Rolex 24 for the 43-year-old Tracy, an IndyCar champion with more than a quarter-century of racing experience.
“I’m very excited to make my return to Daytona for the 50th Anniversary of the Rolex 24, and especially with Doran Racing,” Tracy told Grand-Am.com. “I drove my first Rolex 24 in a Doran JE4 design back in 2005, and it was a great experience. I’m grateful that [team owner Kevin Doran]’s put his trust in me as a driver and paired me with the Frisselle brothers and Jim Lowe.
“One of my first big race wins as a driver [1986 at age 17] came in a Frisbee Can-Am car—a car that Brian and Burt’s father built, so I’m thrilled to now be able to race with the next generation of Frisselles,” Tracy said. “I’m looking forward to a very competitive race weekend.”
Team owner Kevin Doran was equally pleased to have Tracy on board. “The Rolex 24 At Daytona is a tough race for all who compete,” Doran said. “Paul’s definitely up for the task. I look for this race to be exciting, and I hope we are in the mix for the shootout at the end.”
The 50th Anniversary Grand Am Rolex 24 at Daytona takes the green flag at 3:30 p.m. January 28.
