Mount Karangetang, one of Indonesia’s most active volcanoes, erupted on Friday, leaving four people missing, according to Priyadi Kardono, a National Disaster Mitigation Agency official.

The eruption of Mount Karangetang has left five injured, among which one seriously injured.

About 65 people from 16 families were evacuated from their villages. At least one house was buried and several other structures damaged, including a bridge, which isolated about 20,000 residents in six villages. Rescue and aid teams have been sent to the affected area, according to the Jakarta Globe.

“We are having a hard time communicating with people in the danger zones,” Kardono told the Indonesian daily newspaper.

The 5,800 foot-high volcano lies at the northern end of the Siau Island, north of Sulawesi.

The volcano has had more than 40 recorded eruptions since 1675.
