India will deploy 2,000 more troops over the next two days in the Kashmir Valley, One India reported.

The troops will help enforce a curfew imposed on the region to contain simmering anti-India violence.

On Monday, thousands of anti-India and Quran protesters took to the streets. Demonstrators burned a Christian missionary school, and government and police buildings to protest the threatened burning of the Quran by an American pastor, according to Reuters.

Eighteen people were killed, 17 from police fire and one policeman died from a stone thrown by a demonstrator the report said. At least 188 people were injured; 113 policemen and 75 civilians.

All flights to the capital Srinagar were canceled Sept. 14 for security reasons, and residents were asked to stay indoors, and armed police patrolled deserted streets, according to the report.
