Monday, April 18 is the income tax deadline and many Americans are rushing to the post office to file their returns.

Some people always wait until the very last day to file their taxes while others send it in a month in advance--even with the IRS extending the filing date three days to April 18.

In some cities, post offices will stay open later than 6:30 p.m., but don’t count on them staying open much later than that. However, in some locations, the closing time is 11:59 p.m.

“With the deadline for filing tax returns rapidly approaching, the United States Postal Service reminds last-minute filers to pay special attention to collection box pick-up times and Post Office retail hours,” said the United States Post Office in a statement.

However, if you cannot make it to the post office in time, there is a plethora of online filing options that can be found here. There are free programs for taxpayers who make less than $58,000.
