Although the idea of an additional competition-like show is proving to draw lots of attention, as host Ryan Seacrest announced on the radio that the competition received over 13 million votes through social media by 11 a.m. on Thursday, there has been skepticism about the concept.

“Even before it airs on NBC, the two-hour ‘ceremony’ seems less a celebration than a synergistic infomercial,” wrote Los Angeles Times Pop Music Critic, Randall Roberts.
