The term “#IfIEverSeeZimmerman” trended on Twitter late Saturday night following the acquittal of George Zimmerman, with many expressing vitriol following the decision.
Most of the tweets written were imagined accounts of what the user might do to Zimmerman amid high tensions after the verdict.
“#IfIEverSeeZimmerman I Sweah I'll Try With all my might to kill his ahh,” wrote user Pretty_Beee. “#IfIEverSeeZimmerman I will spit in his face!” wrote another, user Jalen McGhee.
Antoher, RIP Maisha, wrote: “#IfIEverSeeZimmerman Ima make that Mf SUFFER.”

But others questioned the validity of the trending term.
“Why is #IfIEverSeeZimmerman trending? Y‘all know if y’all saw Zimmerman y'all wouldn’t do anything,” wrote user JohnBoy.
“#IfIEverSeeZimmerman So you think he murdered Trayvon, so now you want to murder him? ‘Eye for an eye makes the whole world blind,’” wrote Matt Johnson.
One user those using the trending term to express their frustration with the verdict isn’t helping.
“I understand everyone’s frustration but if you’re African-American and tweeting #IfIEverSeeZimmerman, thank you for making us look worse,” user Ayanna wrote.
Eventually, users turned it into a bit of a joke.
Another wrote: “If you’re tweeting threats with #IfIEverSeeZimmerman, here’s a heads up that you’ve gained a new follower: the FBI.”
Outside the Seminole County courthouse, protesters expressed their anger while some called for nationwide protests.
Meanwhile, the New Black Panther Party said that “Millions for Trayvon” protests would take place Sept. 7 in New York.
