A 2-year-old boy shot and killed his mother at a Walmart in Hayden, Idaho, on Tuesday, prompting a the store to close.
The shooting was described as accidental, reported KXLY-TV.
The woman has not been identified by officials. The child also was not identified.
Officials said that the woman had a concealed weapons permit.
Per KXLY:
Lt. Stu Miller with the Kootenai County Sheriff’s Office said there was one victim, a female in her 20s, who was killed, and that it was an accidental shooting.
During a media briefing, Miller said the woman’s two-year-old son grabbed a handgun concealed in her purse and shot her.
The Kootenai County Sheriff’s Office said the toddler reached into the woman’s purse and grabbed the gun, which then went off and shot the woman, KHQ-TV.

After looking at surveillance video, deputies say the woman’s 2-year-old son reached into her purse and the gun went off.
Lt. Stu Miller from the Kootenai County Sheriff’s Office says they’re waiting to notify the woman’s family before releasing any more information about her. Deputies say they believe she was shopping for three other kids, and that the family was in town visiting for the holidays.
Hayden is located just north of Coeur d'Alene, Idaho, which is about 15 miles east of Spokane, Washington.
