Idaho dog disappearances: Dozens of dogs have disappeared in Idaho’s Magic Valley and several days ago, four dogs were found bludgeoned and shot to death.

Reuters reported that the bodies of four German shepherd mixes were found dumped in a pile off a highway near Twin Falls in southern Idaho.

“We didn’t know until today how they had died: poisoned or shot or what. We knew it was some type of head trauma the way the eyes bulged out and with all the bleeding,” Twin Falls County Sheriff’s Office deputy Gary Trostel told the news agency.

Since November, at least 30 dogs have gone missing in the area.

A German shepherd was found last month in a remote area Devil’s Corral in nearby Jerome County. The dog’s head appeared to have been crushed with a rock and was covered with ceremonial purple cloth.

At the time, authorities described the dog’s killing as “ritualistic.”

“We’re staying on it and working with what leads we have. We know something is going on but we don’t know what it all means. We’re trying to find out,” Trostel aded.

The U.S. Humane Society is offering $5,000 for information leading to information about the dog’s death, but it is unclear if the dog disappearances are connected, according to KMVT television.

Debbie Blackwood, the director of the animal shelter in Twin Falls, told KPVI last month that she has ruled out wild animals or cars killing the dogs.

“We are talking cruelty and or theft then cruelty,” she told KPVI television. “Put it all together, there’s a lot of missing dogs.”

She said that witnesses saw people trying to capture the dogs.

“They saw them loading them in their vehicle,” said Blackwood. “They let their little dog out, next thing she knows a red van pulls up and she has to race out and retrieve it....Another person said a black Eldorado type car, they caught the person calling their dog over to them and many, many issues all southern Idahowide. “

She added: “There have been some found with mouth duct-taped shut and then their teeth had been filed off before that so they couldn’t fight back and were used to train dogs as bait dogs.”
