NEW YORK—In promotion of the state’s official tourism campaign I Love New York, award-winning director Bob Giraldi and his team produced television commercials featuring a cast of New York celebrities. Giraldi is most well-known for directing the music video for Michael Jackson’s hit, “Beat It.”

The commercials highlight the state’s arts, culture, fine dining, and entertainment with the faces of film and television actor Alec Baldwin, actress and producer Tina Fey, television personality Rachael Ray, and New York Jets quarterback Mark Sanchez.

“Just like a generation ago when Frank Sinatra and other stars appeared in the now legendary I Love New York commercials that forever changed the way states market tourism, New York’s tourism industry is again at a defining moment,” said Empire State Development Chairman and CEO Dennis Mullen in a press release. Along with Giraldi, Mullen made the announcement at the Helmsley Park Lane Hotel in Manhattan.

Mullen said that tourism has been the least affected industry after the economic downturn. He expressed his gratitude toward Giraldi for offering to do the commercials for free.

The commercials will be shown before JetBlue planes take off and after every New York Jets game. JetBlue and the Jets are the campaign’s partners.
