The Sprint EVO 4G, advertised as being ten times faster than the Sprint’s 3G phones, had recent sales that exceeded expectations—despite many technophiles awaiting today’s debut of the iPhone 4. Sprint released a statement boasting that the new model broke a company sales record.

The Sprint EVO 4G went on sale last Friday, June 4 with a respectable response from consumers. Sprint tracked record breaking sales for the company with the new 4G phone selling more units in one day than any other phone in the company’s history.

“HTC EVO 4G is a clear winner for customers with the powerful combination of an amazing multimedia experience in 3G coverage areas that becomes even better in our growing number of 4G markets. It is terrific to see customers react so positively to this device and the innovative experience it brings to them,” said Sprint CEO Dan Hesse in a statement.

The Sprint EVO 4G is the first 4G phone on the market. The technology involves 100 percent IP packet switched networks allowing for faster processing and more memory capability in a limited casing. The high speed of the new 4G technology will give users the ability to run more programs and features on Google’s Android operating system, and use their smartphones with less lag time.

The sales couldn’t come at a better time for HTC and Sprint, which will face stiff competition once Apple and its associated network providers officially release the iPhone 4 that was unveiled Monday.
