How to Download Instagram Videos

I really like Instagram. With it you can easily share images and videos with your friends. The fact that you’re able to share these things on this platform isn’t even the coolest thing. The coolest thing is the fact that some people make some seriously creative and funny things in 15 second video form.

I really like Instagram. With it you can easily share images and videos with your friends. The fact that you’re able to share these things on this platform isn’t even the coolest thing. The coolest thing is the fact that some people make some seriously creative and funny things in 15 second video form.

And believe me, there’s no shortage of videos being made. One day you may be scrolling through your feed and think “I wish I could download this.” Or you may have created a new Instagram account and you’re interested in backing up all of your videos. Well, you can!

Download video one at a time

To download an Instagram video, first you'll need its URL. Head over to the Instagram profile that the video is located on and copy it to your clipboard. Once you’ve got the Instagram video’s URL, head over to this website.

Once at the website, paste the Instagram video link into the video URL box on the page. Doing so will generate a file for you that starts downloading automatically.

Note: if you wish to have the video you want to download sent to your email, put your email into the email box on the page.

Download automatically with “If This Then That”

Are you interested in downloading more than one video from Instagram? If so, head over to ifttt.com and create an account (if you don’t have one already). Once you’ve created your account, click on the “My Recipes” button at the top of the page. Click the “Create a Recipe” button to get started.

When you click the “Create a Recipe” button, you'll be asked to choose “This” (aka a trigger channel). Click the blue “This” button and search for Instagram in the search box.

Choosing Instagram as a trigger channel will bring up several commands you‘ll need to choose from. Find and click on the option “You like a video.” With the option clicked on, soon after you’ll be asked to create the trigger. Do so by clicking the button that appears.

With the trigger channel set up, IFTTT will present you with a clickable “That” button. Click on it and search for Google Drive in the search box.

Selecting Google Drive as an action channel will reveal several actions to choose from. Find and select “Upload from URL.”

Your newly selected action channel needs to be confirmed. You'll see a few text boxes that you may change if you wish. It’s not necessary to change them though. Just click the blue “Create Action” button to move on.

Both the trigger and action have been set up and configured and are ready to go. Now all that’s left is to click the create recipe button to activate it.

From now on, every time you like a video on Instagram, IFTTT will go out and download it and save it to your Google Drive account. If you decide that you don’t like this recipe, just go to the “My Recipes” section in IFTTT and delete the video downloading recipe.

Note: it’s possible to follow the same steps and send your videos to Dropbox instead of Google Drive. Just choose Dropbox as an action channel instead of Google Drive in the setup process.

Conclusion

Social media and short video clips go together very well. It just so happens that in the world of social media, Instagram is one of the best ways to share these short video clips. I hope that with this guide you'll find even more ways to share a short fifteen second video clip online. Enjoy!
