A Swedish moose was found trapped in an apple tree on Tuesday after becoming intoxicated on fermented fruit.
Gothenburg local Per Johansson returned home from work to strange roaring sounds coming from his vacationing neighbor’s garden.
When Johansson went to investigate, he discovered the female moose thrashing around in the tree, and called the emergency services for help.
The men sawed off several branches to free the moose, which collapsed on the ground, most likely weary and still very drunk from the experience. Watch a video of the images here.
After recovering in the garden overnight, the animal was still hanging around in the garden the next day before finally taking off when Johansson approached her.
Johansson believes the moose became entangled in the tree after stretching up to reach an apple on a high branch, and then slipping in the wet grass.
It is not uncommon for wild animals to become drunk after feasting on fallen fruit, particularly as many trees create gluts of fruit in the warmer months that can ferment rapidly.
The alcohol naturally present in the rotten fruit appears to affect animals in a similar manner to humans, causing them to stumble around, fall over, and sleep deeply.
Some animals even seem to suffer from a hangover the following day, as seen in this amusing video of African animals getting drunk on overripe marula fruit in Botswana.
