WASHINGTON—House Speaker Nancy Pelosi, aided by Wyoming sixth-grader Daniel Sitter, lit up the 2010 Capitol Christmas tree on the west lawn of the Capitol Building last week.
This year’s tree, lit on Dec. 7, is a 67-foot Engelmann Spruce from Wyoming’s Bridger-Teton National Forest. The tree is decorated with about 5,000 hand-made ornaments made by schoolchildren in Wyoming. It visited 22 Wyoming cities before making its way to the nation’s capitol.
Pelosi called the tree, “A source of pride for Wyoming, and a source of joy for the United States Congress and for all Americans.”
The United States Navy Band and the Cheyenne All-City Children's Choir provided music to the onlookers, who endured a very cold night.
Pelosi invited men and women from Walter Reed Army Medical Center and their family members to the ceremony, and they gathered on the Speaker's balcony to watch.
Members of the Wyoming congressional delegation, former congressmen, and other government officials joined in the ceremony.
