House Minority Leader Kevin McCarthy (R-Calif.) filed a resolution on March 18 to remove Rep. Eric Swalwell (D-Calif.) from the House Intelligence Committee, following reports that Swalwell may have been compromised by an alleged Chinese Communist Party spy.

“Swalwell engaged in a years-long relationship with a suspected Chinese spy, and his conduct makes clear he has no place serving on the committee in charge of America’s top secrets,” McCarthy said, referring to allegations that he was involved in a relationship with a woman—known as Fang Fang or Christine Fang—accused of spying for the CCP.
