A house on Garden Rock Road in unincorporated Marin County north of Fairfax sustained substantial damage in an early morning fire on Sept. 2, the Ross Valley Fire Department said.

Firefighters received several calls at about 8:10 a.m. and found a bedroom of the single-story house fully involved. That bedroom and another room were destroyed, and the rest of the house sustained serious smoke damage, Fire Chief Jason Weber said on social media.

No one, including an elderly man who had been in the bedroom where the fire is believed to have started, was injured. Two people, including the elderly man, were displaced by the fire.

Firefighters from the Marin County, San Rafael, and Kentfield fire departments helped Ross Valley Firefight the blaze.

The cause of the fire is still under investigation, Weber said, but investigators believe it started in the bedroom.
