House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi (D-Calif.) said in a statement, “For more than 250 days in the majority, House Republicans have failed to offer a jobs agenda. They now have the opportunity to change course, to pass the American Jobs Act, and to put people to work.
“Our nation’s families, workers, entrepreneurs, teachers, police officers, firefighters, and veterans must not and cannot wait any longer; they cannot afford political gamesmanship."
Speaker of the House John Boehner (R-Ohio) said at a Sept. 13 press conference, “As a former small businessman myself, I can tell you that we’ve got a little different approach to creating jobs than our friends across the aisle. When you look at what we saw in the president’s pay-fors yesterday, we see permanent tax increases put into effect in order to pay for temporary spending. I just don’t think that’s going to help our economy the way it could."
Boehner was referring to President Barack Obama's statements about how to fund his proposed American Jobs Act, which includes repairing and building roads, bridges, and other infrastructure projects with federal funds.
