Hong Kong Ice Hockey 5’s In Full Swing

The annual Hockey 5’s tournament is currently ongoing at Mega Ice, Kowloon Bay. The Junior and Youth Tournament took place from April 27 to May 3, while the adult competition started on Monday May 5 and will be concluded on Saturday May 10.

The annual Hockey 5’s tournament is currently ongoing at Mega Ice, Kowloon Bay. The Junior and Youth Tournament took place from April 27 to May 3, while the adult competition started on Monday May 5 and will be concluded on Saturday May 10.

The Hong Kong Hockey 5’s is the premier Ice Hockey Event in Asia with over 100 teams from many countries and 14 cities taking part. Participants include teams right across Asia and as far away as the Middle East and Finland. Many players from Europe and the Americas, including current NHL stars, are involved. The high standard of play is exciting to watch particularly in International A and B tournaments.

In the adult section there are five women’s teams, 16 men’s Asian teams, 4 teams in International (40+), 5 teams in International-A and 8 teams in International-B. There are many fast, skilful teams to watch including last year’s International-A winners the Kreuz Subsea Sharks. But all of the International-A teams play to an amazingly high standard with teams that including the Tokyo Canadians, the Hong Kong Tigers, Otterbox Otters and Pandoo Nation.

The Hong Kong Club has two sides in the Asian Event and the CIHL has teams in the Asian and International 40+ tournaments.

Round Robin matches continue tonight and tomorrow night (Thursday and Friday, May 8-9) with the higher quality matches starting in the early evening.

Semi-finals and Finals take place on Saturday May 10. However, there are matches right through the day from 6.00am through until after midnight on the last two days of the event this Friday and Saturday.

Youth teams covered age category events with competitions for Atoms, Mini Squirts, Squirts, Pee Wees and Bantams.
