ANAHEIM, Calif.—Police July 6 identified a man found dead in an Anaheim park and said his death was being investigated as a homicide.

Authorities were sent to Ponderosa Park, in the 2100 block of South Haster Street, at about 7 a.m. July 5 “regarding an unresponsive male,” Anaheim police Sgt. Shane Carringer said.

Michael Anthony Garcia, 42, a transient, was found dead on the east side of the park, Carringer said.

“Personnel from the Orange County Coroner’s office responded to the scene, and upon their examination of the deceased, discovered evidence of trauma consistent with a homicide,” Carringer said in a statement.

According to Carringer, Anaheim homicide detectives will not be releasing more details of the trauma suffered by Garcia at this point.
