Kindness comes in all forms. To be kind to someone, you don’t really require a lot of money or need to put in a lot of effort, and this heartwarming story shows that.

Just as one guy was about to enter a fast-food restaurant, he happened to notice a homeless man giving a woman the last coins in his pocket so the woman could take her child back to their shelter by bus. By doing so, however, the homeless man would go hungry that night. Seeing the touching scene, the onlooker decided to do something.

On the way to Hook Fish And Chicken for some hot dinner, Fernando Herrera, from Minnesota, overheard a conversation between a homeless man and a woman. The woman was asking the homeless man for a bus fare to take her child back to their shelter.

Though it was somehow strange that the woman would ask a homeless man for money, she indeed picked the right person. The homeless man took out all the change he had from his pocket and gave it to the mother without hesitation. Then he turned away from the Minneapolis chicken wing joint, where he'd planned to buy some food for dinner. But since he didn’t have any money now, he walked away.

When Herrera saw all this unfold, he felt “this man stuck out to me more than anybody ever has.” So he shared the story and the homeless man’s photo in a post on his Facebook page.

“He knew if he gave it to her, he wouldn’t have money to eat, and yet he still gave it to her,” Herrera wrote.

“He started walking away when I called him.” Herrera told him that he would pay for anything he ordered, but the man politely declined. Nevertheless, Herrera still didn’t want him to go away hungry. He convinced him to buy something.

“After a few words I finally got him to agree,” Herrera wrote. “Even though he agreed he still tried to pick the smallest order possible. He ended up ordering a 6 piece wings with fries and I ordered a 20 piece wings with fries and a drink.”

When the food arrived, however, Herrera quickly swapped their orders. Before leaving, Herrera showed his gratefulness to the man.

“I thanked him for showing me that money doesn’t mean anything if you aren’t helping others,” he wrote.

Herrera’s sincere words brought tears to the homeless man’s eyes. He also thanked Herrera and hugged him.

“Some people are blessed more than other but that doesn’t mean we’re better than them,” Herrera concluded. “It’s a test God gives us to see who we really are. Help others because you never know when you'll need help.”

Since the posting of the picture in 2015, the post has gone viral, racking up more than 380,000 reactions and some 120,000 shares.

One user commented, “An act of kindness I love it.”

While another wrote, “That’s a feel good story!”

A third one chimed in, “It warms my heart to see such kindness by both people involved. Something you don’t see every day.”
