Fara Sherazi is going to be a crucial part of Homeland season 4 after Nazanin Boniadi, the actress who plays her, was promoted to series regular.
The news comes as the show undergoes a dramatic transformation following the death of Brody.
Damian Lewis and the actresses who played his wife and daughter are only expected to appear on one or two episodes, if at all.
Claire will now be the main focus of the show, with producers saying she will likely go to a foreign country to do what she was trained to do.
Boniadi first appeared in the third season, playing a strong-willed Muslim CIA anaylst taken under Saul’s wing while Claire was working outside the agency.
Saul will be back in season 4 but as a contractor.
Boniadi will be working for Carrie in season 4.
“These are characters we got to explore and enrich and see whether or not the show can withstand Brody’s absence,” showrunner Alex Gansa told The Hollywood Reporter, referring to Boniadi and fellow guest Tracy Letts. “I think they raised their game and made the show vital without that central character onstage.”
Boniadi has also recently appeared on Scandal and How I Met Your Mother.
