Home Staging Secrets: Making a Great First Impression

As the saying goes, you can’t make a second first impression. It’s true when meeting new people, and it’s DEFINITELY true with a staged home!

Generally, it only takes a home buyer a maximum of 30 seconds upon entering to decide if they are interested in a home, so you‘ll definitely want to make those 30 seconds count. This is why the entryway should be at the top of your list when staging your home. When buyers first walk in, they’ll see it as a preview of what’s to come.

First and foremost, eliminate ALL clutter. This includes visible jackets, bags and shoes! Buyers should see that there is a place for them to drop their things when they first walk in, but yours should be hidden for showing purposes. Make use of that hallway closet, or consider adding a closed cabinet for storage.

Next, consider what types of furniture you will use. There should definitely be a table for dropping mail, keys and bags - but if you have the space, you can also opt for a small seating area as well. These are great examples of how a small chair or bench can be incorporated into an entryway:

For smaller spaces, you can forgo the seating, but be sure there is at least a small table. Don’t be afraid to add some nice accessories and even a bit of color - just be sure to keep it neutral enough to appeal to all buyers. Try adding some fresh flowers, a pretty lamp or a decorative bowl for dropping keys.
