OTTAWA—Harmony and balance at home was a winning combination for Christopher Simmonds Architect Inc. last Saturday.

That’s when Simmonds and his team walked away with nine of this year’s 38 Greater Ottawa Home Builders’ Association (GOHBA) Housing Design Awards.

Simmonds’s philosophy is to provide holistic and sustainable designs that contribute to a harmonious community.

That means considering the inhabitants of a home and the environment and community in which it is built.

The goal is to make sure everyone wins.

The firm’s prize haul included the People’s Choice Award based on votes collected at the Home & Design Show held in late September.

Simmonds’s designs have won warm approval from Ottawa buyers with custom homes that are both beautiful and unique.

The Simmonds homes have a warmth that comes from open concept designs and windows as long and tall as walls allow.

And that effort to harmonize with the environment means the view outside gives an encouraging vista of what nature has on offer.

Simmonds wasn’t the only big winner. Tartan Homes left with four awards for their model homes and Roca Homes took four awards for their custom homes.

Minto Communities also had a multi-medal haul with three awards including Green Development of the Year.

In total, there were some 147 entries submitted in 38 categories. Entries were judged by a team of architecture and design professionals based on photos, floor plans, and project descriptions.
