The Hobbit studio, set of Sir Peter Jackson’s highly anticipated prequel to the Lord Of The Rings trilogy, was the scene of an explosion, on Tuesday, which saw two men taken to hospital.

The film’s publicist, Ceris Price, told Reuters that the two men, who suffered from minor burns, were drilling on a statue at the time of the explosion.

Filming of the movie will not be hindered, with the first part of the film set for release in December 2012 and the second expected a year later.

Filming began in March after serious problems plagued the starting of production, with Warner Bros considering moving the film overseas because of union demands for a collective contract and possible boycotting of the film, reported Reuters.

The Hobbit, written by JRR Tolkien and first published in 1937, is set in Middle-Earth 60 years before the Lord of the Rings trilogy.
