Hoax: ‘Unarmed Black Woman Shot to Death by Police in Georgia’; Sharon Mosley / Walmart Story Not Real

August 25, 2014 Updated: July 18, 2015

An article saying an “unarmed black woman” was shot and killed by police in George is fake.

It’s titled, “Uh Oh! Not Again! Unarmed Black Woman Shot to Death by Police in Georgia!” and it was published on Newsbuzzdaily.com, a site that publishes only fake news.

“Johnson, GA- An unarmed black woman was gunned down in Johnson, GA last night at a Wal-Mart in front of her three year old daughter. Around 10 p.m., 25 year old Sharon Mosley was at Wal-Mart on Grey Hwy, shopping with her daughter when police were called to the big box store. Wal-Mart asset protection associates believed Mosley had shoplifted a couple of items from the health and beauty aide department,” it says. “Bibb County Police have not released the name of the officer who killed Sharon Mosley and have yet to comment on the incident. Sharon Mosley was 25 years old. No funeral arrangements have not been made,” it adds.

At the bottom of each page, the website has a disclaimer that says it’s not real.

“NewsBuzzDaily.com is a combination of real shocking news and satire news. Please note that articles written on this site are for entertainment and satirical purposes only,” it reads.

There was no local or national media coverage of a woman being shot near a Walmart in Johnson, Ga.

The bogus article had tens of thousands of shares on social media sites as of Monday.

And a number of people apparently believed the bogus report.
