Good wins by Leighton Asia Hong Kong Cricket Club and WhichWay Valley in the Hong Kong Rugby Football Union Premiership push them to first and second respectively in the standings.
HKCC playing Newedge Club at Sports Road showed their overwhelming power up front to win the match 22-10. Club seemed considerably under powered in the scrums and rucks and HKCC took advantage of this situation on many occasions.
Valley vs Kowloon
WhichWay Valley playing Abacus Kowloon at the new Valley-8 ground were equally impressive winning 38-5.
Kowloon Coach Jason Conlin’s comments after their defeat by HKCC last week: “So we need to draw a line under that and will get in on Tuesday and sort it,” did not seem to happen. Of late, Kowloon seems to have lost their way and will need to regain it quickly to stay in touch with the leaders.
Paddy Donovan a HKCC man gave his view of the Valley vs Kowloon game to Epoch Times.
“I think Kowloon have been suffering from a few injuries earlier in the week and they did well against Valley in the first half, but in the second half Valley came through and ran away with it. Their [Valley’s] backs were somewhat better and it ended up being six tries to one,” said Donovan.
Asked about Kowloon’s game the previous week against HKCC, Donovan explained why they appear to be falling off the pace.
“Yes, Kowloon played the Cricket Club last weekend and it was a very tough physical encounter. I think Kowloon had four or five of their top guys out with injuries so backing up was a bit of a struggle for them today.”
HK Scottish vs Borrelli Walsh Tigers
HK Scottish had a pulverising 62-10 win over the Tigers at Shek Kip Mei Sports Ground giving HK Scottish a significant lift to 7 points in the standings table. The Tigers are still languishing pointless.
Standings
The HKCC win puts them on top of the standings with 18 points, with WhichWay Valley second on 17 points. Both of these teams have a game in hand as their fixture was postponed earlier in the season. Kowloon is third in the Standings on 14 points and Newedge Club have 11.
Next Matches
The Premiership takes a rest until Nov 16 as the Toulouse vs Racing Metro representative match is scheduled to be played at Aberdeen Sports Ground this coming Saturday Nov 9.
