High Alert Declared for Inauguration in Philippines
Security forces in the Philippines went on high alert Tuesday in preparation for the inauguration of the country’s 15th president Benigno Simeon Aquino III on Wednesday.

The country’s military and police were put on the highest alert status, according to Dateline Philippines.

Four military battalions have been deployed. Two battalions will be at the inauguration site, the Quirino Grandstand in the capital Manila, during the event. The other two will patrol Metro Manila.

Spokesman for armed forces, Lt. Col. Arnulfo Marcelo Burgos, said the high alert status does not imply there is an impending threat, reported Philippine news source ABS-CBN News.

Eighty-one countries said they would attend the inauguration and at least 21 will be high level delegations, according to the Philippine Department of Foreign Affairs.
