A HHS website was hacked recently, it was reported.
The website--of the Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration--was hosting “dozens of pages hawking retail merchandise,” reported the Weekly Standard.
“HHS-Run Website Hacked; Now Selling NFL Jerseys, Ugg Boots, Armani Fragrances,” the report was titled.
Attempts to access the pages that were captured via screenshots by the Weekly Standard were directed to pages that don’t exist.
The report said users clicking on the pages were sometimes taken directly to an external website, while in other cases they were taken to another area that appeared to be within the administration website.
“Of the websites investigated, two domains are registered in the United States and one in China,” it said.
“All of the instances uncovered by this investigation are under the sub domain nace.samhsa.gov, which is the Native American Center for Excellence. The first breach discovered dates back to July 29 of this year, and the unauthorized pages are still on the site.”
The NACE website, as of Oct. 4 at 2:43 p.m. EDT is “undgoing maintanence,” according to a message posted on it. “We are sorry for any inconvenience this has caused you.”
