The Herschel telescope was launched by the European Space Commission in May 2009 and the first findings were unveiled last week. The Herschel is the largest infrared telescope and is several times larger than the Hubble telescope. The initial discoveries made using the Herschel telescope has given scientists a new vantage point on how stars are created.

A major discovery made using the Herschel telescope is the RCW 120 gas bubble, showing the birth of a massive star already eight to ten times larger than the Sun. ESA Scientists they couldn’t imagine a star of this size.
