Seattle’s Felix Hernandez (11-5) threw the twenty-third perfect game in Major League history Wednesday afternoon in blanking the Tampa Bay Rays 1–0.

The 26-year-old right-hander struck out 12 Tampa Bay batters in facing the minimum over nine innings.

“I realized in the third or the fourth,” Hernandez, the 2010 AL Cy Young award winner said on the field after the game, according to MLB.com. “It was in my mind the whole game. I was like, ‘Come on, you gotta do it. You gotta do it. When I came out in the ninth, I was a bit nervous.”

Hernandez has been one of the hottest pitchers in the game of late. Since losing his fifth game on June 12, he’s gone 7-0 with a 1.73 ERA over 12 starts.
