The five finalists for the 77th annual Heisman Award were announced Monday.
The players who made the cut were Baylor’s Robert Griffin, Stanford’s Andrew Luck, LSU’s Tyrann Mathieu, Alabama’s Trent Richardson, and Montee Ball from Wisconsin.
Mathieu, a sophomore is the only defensive player to make the cut. The cornerback and punt returner was the SEC’s Defensive Player of the Year and averaged 17.8 yards per return while returning two punts for touchdowns.
Luck, a senior quarterback, has thrown for 3,170 yards and 35 touchdowns in leading the Cardinal to an 11-1 record.
Griffin, also a quarterback has led the Baylor Bears to a 9-3 record, while passing for 3,998 yards and 36 scores.
Wisconsin’s Montee Ball has run for 1,759 yards and 32 scores for the 11-2 Badgers.
Trent Richardson of Alabama ran for 1,583 yards while scoring 20 touchdowns for the 11-1 Crimson Tide this season.
