Hamas ordered lingerie shops in Gaza to be more discreet in their window displays, reports Al Arabiya News Channel.

Hamas says the measures come as the result of complaints by ordinary citizens and are intended to guard “public morality,” according to the report.

Stores are being asked to take down scantily dressed mannequins and posters of suggestive underwear from shop windows.

“It is absolutely forbidden to place any photographic device inside the shop and it is forbidden to display revealing clothes in front of the shop,” a police statement said as translated by Al Arabiya.

The move comes two weeks after Hamas forbade women from smoking water pipes in public, and three months after it stopped a pop-music concert as part of its campaign to uphold moral standards in the city
