Israel’s foreign minister, Avigdor Lieberman, said on Wednesday that there was no reason to assume that Israel’s spy agency, Mossad, was behind the assassination of a Hamas military commander in Dubai.
Earlier this week, Dubai police released the names, photo’s, and passport numbers of 11 persons allegedly involved in what police said appeared to be a professional hit squad.
Suspicion of the Mossad’s involvement mounted on Wednesday after at least seven of the passports which appeared to be stolen, matched up with real people in Israel.
“I don’t know why we are assuming that Israel, or the Mossad, used those passports,” Israeli Foreign Minister Avigdor Lieberman told Army Radio, AP reports. Assassinated Hamas leader Al-Mabhouh, who was one of the founders of the militant group, was reportedly in Dubai to buy weapons.
