Actors Jon Hamm and Halle Berry were among many stars who attended the second annual School Day Lunch With A Leader event on Sept. 18 in Beverly Hills, hosted by the charity auction website CharityBuzz.

Hamm and Berry explained why they were so passionate about education.

“I’ve been given so much in my life so whenever I can give back in some way, and being a mom, I understand how important education is,” Berry said.

Berry feels compelled to making education a reality for those who are less fortunate.

“Educating children, I can’t think of anything more worthy,” she said.

Hamm gave an example of his own growing up in St. Louis, Louisiana and attending a public school for the first six grades of his schooling.

“We had things like music, and we had things like art, and we had things like recess, those things are all being taken away now,” Hamm said.

Hamm hopes that by raising funds during the charity auction, he will be helping to “replenish the vault” with the crucial classes like the ones he enjoyed.

“We live in a very weird time now with education, in general, in public education in particular where funds are being rapidly taken away,” he said.

“There are good ways and bad ways to use the power of celebrity,” Hamm said.
