A gunman was shot and killed by police after trying to steal a helicopter at an airport near Portland, Oregon.

The masked suspect attempted to hijack the aircraft at gunpoint outside a flight school at the Hillsboro Airport.

He went up to a flight instructor and student before pointing a gun and firing a round, Oregonlive.com reported, citing Hillsboro Police Lt. Henry Reimann.

There were no injuries.

The instructor and student fled and the man went inside. He then got out, climbed a fence, and ran to a nearby Comfort Inn.

Then, a police officer encountered the suspect in a field before opening fire. The man, whose identity was not released, died at the scene.

One witness told KATU-TV they had seen a masked man with a hoodie running from police.

The Hillsboro Fire Department tweeted that it’s heading to the scene.
