Clippers power forward, and Team USA Basketball member, Blake Griffin suffered what’s being described as a twisted knee in Wednesday’s practice but woke up feeling some pain and is headed back to Los Angeles for further examination from team doctors, according to a report on the NBA’s website.

Griffin had just signed a five-year $95 million extension with the Clippers on Wednesday.

Hornets rookie forward Anthony Davis, who was an alternate for the team, has been called in to replace Griffin, though no permanent decision has been made regarding Griffin’s future with the team.

“I don’t want to go there yet, but I don’t have to tell you can build the case for length, shot blocking,” said USA Basketball Managing Director Jerry Colangelo, “but until we hear about Blake I don’t want to speculate about anything.”
