Greg Maddux left the Chicago Cubs on Tuesday and headed south to the American League Champion Texas Rangers to become the Special Assistant to the General Manager. He joins his brother Mike Maddux who is the pitching coach for the Rangers.

“We’re excited to add Greg to our group and look forward to him contributing to the development of our young pitchers,” Rangers General Manager Jon Daniels said in a press release. “He is considered by many to be an all-around bright baseball mind and should fit in well with our existing staff.”

Maddux was a four time Cy Young winner and the first pitcher to do it consecutively from 1992–1995.
