‘Avatar’ on Verge of Overtaking ‘Titanic’

James Cameron’s latest film Avatar has surpassed his previous film Titanic as the international box office gross leader. Shown in 3D Imax, 3D, and 2D across screens in 111 countries, the film stands $2 million shy, as of Jan. 25, of the Titanic record of $1.843 billion.

A premium admission fee for 3D and the explosion of the international market for U.S.-produced films has allowed Avatar to earn so quickly.

However, after adjustment for inflation, the 1939 classic Gone With the Wind remains king. It earned $400 million worldwide, which adjusts to $6 billion today.

Alec Baldwin Skis for Charity

Actor Alec Baldwin participated in the annual Fairmont Banff Spring Sports Invitational in Alberta last week. The event benefits The Waterkeeper Alliance, an organization dedicated to preserving the world’s major bodies of water and speaking out against pollution. Baldwin was joined by a bevy of stars including Marla Maples, Mimi Rogers, Virginia Madsen, Lyle Lovett, and Fran Drescher, according to the “National Post.”

Rob Lowe Says Goodbye

Representatives for Actor Rob Lowe have revealed his plan to leave the television show “Brothers and Sisters.” After reportedly expressing the sentiment that his character was being “underutilized,” Lowe’s request to be released from his contract was granted by ABC. Network President Steve McPherson said in a statement, “We would like to keep Rob at ABC; we feel he should be anchoring his own franchise. We are in talks now.”
