A small toddler was run over by his grandparent in Minnesota on Friday afternoon, officials said.

According to KARE11, officials said the incident took place at around 12 p.m. in Nowthen, Minn.

Deputies from the Anoka County Sheriff’s Office arrived at the scene, finding the young girl partially under the vehicle’s tires, CBS Minnesota reported.

The driver was identified as the grandmother, a 54-year-old woman who was not identified.

The girl and her mother were in the backyard of the residence when the mother went inside, deputies said, adding that the grandmother then left the garage to go to an appointment. The small girl apparently wandered underneath the car.

Then, the grandmother backed the car up, hitting the girl.

She was transported to Hennepin County Medical Center for treatment and is expected to survive.

The accident is under investigation. Alcohol wasn’t a factor in the incident.

“The grandmother entered the garage to leave for an appointment and was not aware the child had wandered over towards the area where the vehicle was parked. As the grandmother backed up, she struck the child. When Deputies arrived, the child was still partially underneath the vehicle’s tire and was removed,” the Anoka County Sheriff’s Office said in a statement.
