Grambling State University’s football team staged a walkout on Wednesday amid a row with administration.
The football team boycotted practice and did not show up amid the alleged disparity among players and administrators.
The Shreveport Times reported that players are upset they have to sit on a bus long rides, while administrators can fly to away games.
“(The administration) knew that emotions were raw,” Grambling spokesman Will Sutton told the paper. “No matter what, it was going to be a challenge for the team to feel good after this season and last season.”
Apparently, the team walked out after an administrator described them as “soft” during a meeting, the paper reported.
“It was basically a munity,” a source told the Times.
“[The team] rode the bus all that way [to Indianapolis], and then come back and are disrespected like that. [The team] is standing together because they don’t know is anybody else is standing with them.”
The Grambling State Tigers, who are 0-7, are slated to play Jackson State this weekend on Saturday. It is unclear if the game will take place.
Grambling also recently fired coach Doug Williams. Some players are also reportedly angry with the move to fire him.
The team has lost 17 straight games to NCAA teams, as Fox Sports points out.
“Every week we go against the opposing team, they’re fans, our ‘fans’ and our president,” tweeted linebacker Steve Orisakwe.
