October 1, 2013 Updated: July 18, 2015

A fire was burning at a two-story building on Governors Island on Tuesday.

Firefighters are on the scene battling the fire.

The fire was in a vacant building and started at about 2:45 p.m.

Building 3 is “a historic brick structure in the Nolan Park section of the island,” reported DNAInfo.

More than 60 firefighters responded and put it out.

“At no time was there danger to anyone on Governors Island,” a spokeswoman for the Trust for Governors Island said in a statement. “The building sustained minor damage to its roof.”

The island is a short ferry ride away from Manhattan and has an assortment of buildings left over from when it was a military base.
