Gov. Andrew Cuomo introduced lifetime passes for hunting and fishing in New York state parks on Feb. 12.

“This is a very creative project,” Cuomo said. It’s a simple project nonetheless.

The lifetime passes would generate more income for the state, and promote tourism, Cuomo said. Each lifetime pass comes with an I LOVE NY Adventure License Plate, and the fee includes the license plate renewal fee.

A lifetime hunting license costs $535 and allows hunting on millions of acres across the state. The lifetime fishing license is $460 and provides access to over 70,000 miles of rivers and streams, and 7,000 lakes and ponds.

“We have one of the best park systems in the country,” he said. The lifetime parks license is $750 for access to the 335,000 acres of state parks, with 2,000 miles of trails, and landscapes including forests, seashores, and lakefronts.

Environment Commissioner Joe Martens calls Cuomo “New York’s number one outdoor enthusiast.”

Cuomo wants to install a “GOV-FSHN” license plate, based on popular notice of fishing enthusiasts “Gone Fishing” and has asked the department to keep that plate reserved for him.
