Google’s new initiative is set to make 50 million Indian women go digital and empowered in the next one year.

“India has over 200 million Internet users and the number is growing. India is on its way to become the second largest Internet market overtaking the U.S. But only one-third or about 60 million of the online users are women,” Google India’ Managing Director Rajan Anandan told reporters, according to the Press Trust of India (PTI).

“Our new campaign aims to bring 50 million women online in the next one year so that they can reap the benefits too,” he said.

The website Helping Women Get Online is described online as “A step-by-step guide to help you use the Internet. From how to use a computer to sending an email, it covers all basics to get you started.”

The website is available in English and Hindi languages, while the instructions on how to use the Internet are in various other Indian languages. For any queries for Indian women, the company has also started a toll-free-number: 1800-41-999-77.

Anandan said that Internet can enable women transform their lives by empowering them. “Internet can help women achieve self-esteem, express their views freely, open up new opportunities, and help them to gain education,” he said.

Through the website women can reach others for support, and explore the world of Internet to uplift themselves to newer and diverse platforms.
