The HTC Volantis, which is rumored to also be called the Google Nexus 9, could have 5GB of RAM and a metal body.
UPDATE: Evleaks said the specs were actually part of a hoax.
“Yesterday was not a good day. I got hoaxed 2x. First was OnePlus. Second was Volantis. 14-yr-old posing as a Google engineer. Embarrassing,” Evleaks tweeted.
According to CNET, the 8.9-inch tablet would also have a 2,560x1,600 pixel resolution. It was originally suggested the tablet would be 2,048x1,440 pixels with 2GB RAM.
CNET cited Evleaks, a website that often leaks details and photos of devices via Twitter.

The Volantis would have a silver aluminum unibody, saying “earlier renders/concepts were fake.”
It also has “64-bit Tegra K1 (testing w SD810), 5GB DDR3 (non-final), 8.9″ 1680×1050 (should ship with 2560×1600), 64GB, 5MP/1080p (8MP at retail?), [and] Boomsound,” the site claimed.
It’s unclear if the HTC will call it the Volantis or the Nexus 9, as the company is working with Google on a new Nexus tablet. A number of tech websites have used both names interchangeably.
When it comes out, it also will likely run Android L.
According to The Inquirer, “Some details emerged about the tablet last month too, claiming that it will also tout a 3MP front-facing camera, optional 4GB connectivity and a 7.9mm-thick aluminium casing.”
Android Police also stated the Nexus 9 would start at $399 and would go up to $600 for the LTE model.
BGR also reported that Google will start mass production on the tablet later in July or in August, meaning it will be ready sometime in the fall.
Google and HTC have neither commented on the rumors.
